DESCRIPTION

In this project, I served as the project leader, responsible for the overall planning and execution, as well as storyboarding, scriptwriting, and editing. Alongside my team, we researched and analyzed the emerging internet subculture of "Liminal Spaces," exploring its associated aesthetics such as "Creepcore," "Poolcore," and "Dreamcore." These concepts formed the core of our video, where we created a story infused with a liminal atmosphere and a dreamlike tone, enhanced by post-production effects to deliver a melancholic narrative.

Introduction:

We decided to use Minecraft for our video production and shooting. We have observed the content of a recently popular Internet art form, namely liminal space, dreamcore, weirdcore and hurtcore. We think it's a new art form that can be widely distributed through the Internet, and it's an art form that's based on the Internet.

Most of our scenes are based on the buildings we have on the Minecraft map and the characters we play. There are four main scenarios. The beginning, the middle, the climax, the end. The opening scene is mainly used to explain the appearance of characters and the background of the story, the content is relatively calm and normal; The scene of the process is mainly the process that the heroine wakes up in the dream world and starts to look for the hero. In this process, the empty city scene mainly appears, which is used to reflect the feeling of threshold space and dream core, and the content gradually becomes strange. The climax scene is used to show the gradually unstable dream world and the heroine's desire to escape from it, which foreshadows the next stage. The ending scene is the heroine wakes up in the real world, but finds the hero has fallen into the dream world, so the two go to the agreed lighthouse in the hope of meeting each other there.

What is LIMINAL SPACE?

Liminal spaces, often described as “spaces without people,” are imbued with a sense of nostalgia for past experiences and a lingering anxiety and uncertainty about the future. This duality has given rise to the concept of liminal spaces and their associated subcultural aesthetics—such as poolcore, creepcore, and dreamcore—each serving as a form of revival and reinterpretation of early 2000s memories. These aesthetics reflect contemporary emotional states, combining a melancholic longing for an irretrievable past with a pervasive disorientation when confronting the future. Our project seeks to capture and express this understanding of liminal spaces and their subcultural manifestations, presenting them as a shared cultural symbol of modern psychological and emotional complexities.
